EU Just Transition Fund
Watershed Fly Fishing is proud to be part of the movement for eco guiding in Ireland. This work is supported by grant funding from the EU Just Transition Fund. Thanks to this support, we are building a sustainable tourism experience that attracts both local and international visitors to enjoy the exceptional fly fishing opportunities along the Shannon River system.
Our ethos naturally aligns with the goals of the EU JTF. Therefore, we focus on minimizing our impact on the environment that sustains us. To support this mission, WFF operates exclusively as a “Catch and Release” guiding service under the principles of eco guiding in Ireland.
Moreover, we actively collaborate with local conservation groups, educational programs, and sustainable tourism projects. This page outlines the key stakeholders working together to promote environmental stewardship along the River Shannon.
Ultimately, our role in eco guiding Ireland reflects a deep, ongoing commitment to protecting the waterways and ecosystems that are central to what we do.

As mentioned earlier, our involvement in eco-guiding is part of a long-term commitment to protecting the waterways and ecosystems that support our work.
Beloved fly fishing author John Gierach summarises how we feel about our home waters:
“It’s just that I can live with any number of things going straight to hell as long as these streams continue to hold up. If this amounts to living in a fool’s paradise, don’t waste your time trying to explain that to the fool.”
